Insurance comes in many forms. There is health insurance, life insurance, homeowners' insurance, renters' insurance, and car insurance. There are also a variety of ways to buy insurance. One method that is gaining in popularity is buying online. Perhaps the most common form of insurance sold online is car insurance. The reason for this is because many companies have been offering discounted car insurance exclusively to online customers. The rates charged by such companies are often considerably lower than those offered by agents selling traditional insurance.

Online insurance companies do not have to maintain nice offices, train their agents, or hold conferences to motivate agents. For this reason, they pass the lower cost to consumers in the form of lower premiums. Also, they do not have agents with whom you can meet and discuss your insurance needs face to face. This puts many people off, but this does not necessarily imply that customer service will suffer when operating online. Toll free numbers and published email addresses, and often online chat at the company's website, are available to allow customers to make inquiries, change their policy, or conduct any other business pertaining to their insurance.

Online companies offer insurance that is comparable to the policies offered by agents. Just because a company operates online does not mean that they are exempt from having to provide policies that meet the minimum liability insurance requirements.

The difference between online and traditional insurance is not much. But perhaps the most significant is that in insurance companies that operate online exclusively charge lower rates than the ones with offices and agents.
